WSTS FORECASTS SEMICONDUCTOR MARKET TO GROW SLIGHTLY OVER US$300 BILLION IN 2012
Worldwide Semiconductor Market is forecasted to reach US$301 billion for 2012, with 0.4% over previous year, followed by a healthy 7.2 percent growth in 2013
The World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) latest semi-annual meeting forecasts a less-than-average growth for 2012 worldwide semiconductor revenue, followed by a much better 2013. Forecast for 2012 worldwide revenue is US$301 billion, a 0.4% growth over 2011. For 2013, the market is expected to grow at a much faster pace of 7.2%.
Representatives from major semiconductor companies gathered in Canada to participate in the Spring 2012 Forecast Meeting. 2012 is seen to be relatively weak, with Asia Pacific region weights down the worldwide growth. Europe region may see contraction for the second year due to overall regional economy, while Americas region shows a healthier growth. Within product categories, Optoelectronics semiconductor is the highlight among others. Most major IC categories see little growth this year.
Looking forward, WSTS forecasts the worldwide semiconductor market will grow at a high rate of 7.2% to US$322 billion in 2013, followed by 4.4% growth to reach US$336 billion in 2014.
